Kelly Molony
The Dubuque Community School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Molony as the new principal of Jefferson Middle School, approved by the Board of Education at its June 8 meeting. An experienced educational administrator, Molony just completed her tenth year as assistant principal of Roosevelt Middle School.
As principal of Jefferson, Molony will be responsible for the strategic and day-to-day operations of the school, which serves approximately 600 students and has over 100 professional and support staff.
“Kelly’s background in middle school administration, combined with the relationships and respect she already has across the district, make her an ideal fit for this new role,” said Superintendent of Schools Stan Rheingans. “We are confident that her leadership and energy will continue to enhance the positive work happening at Jefferson.”
Molony has spent the vast majority of her career working at the middle-school level. Prior to serving at Roosevelt Middle School, she was principal of Maquoketa Middle School. She has also been a middle school teacher, guidance counselor and family resource coordinator in Maquoketa, was a juvenile shelter teacher for Keystone AEA in Dubuque, and was a middle school teacher at Aquin Middle School in Cascade.
In some ways, this move for Molony represents a return to her first years being associated with the district. “My connection to the Dubuque Community School District as an employee started at Jefferson,” said Molony, who coached eighth grade volleyball and basketball at the school from 1988-1991. “I am excited for the opportunity to return there as the principal.”
Molony holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and a master of arts degree in guidance counseling from Loras College, where she also received her administrative endorsement. Professionally, she is a member of School Administrators of Iowa, the Association for Middle Level Education and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
